Christmas over the top in the Big Apple
December 18, 2015
Christmas in the Big Apple is in a league of its own. It's over the top. You can feel the contagious excitement in the air. I'm in the midst of it all as I write this - swept up in the irresistible sights, sounds and smells of the holiday season. Dancing, singing and subway-riding Santas, concerts, extravagant holiday windows, lavish decorations, street corner carolers and enough holiday bling to satisfy Mariah Carey.
Noshing around New York City
December 18, 2015
You can eat surprisingly well without breaking the bank if you know where to go in New York. I'm a fussy foodie and these are some of my favorite eateries.
Broadway's hottest shows for holidays and beyond
December 18, 2015
Broadway never ceases to amaze and dazzle me. You can feel the electricity and excitement in Times Square, the best people-watching spot on earth. There's nothing like a good old fashioned Broadway musical to get your adrenaline pumping. Fabulous costumes, great choreography, and terrific sets are set against a backdrop of historic theaters.
Fun and games on Carnival cruise
March 21, 2015
I was craving some fun in the sun. The gloomy, gray, grungy winter weather was getting me down. I desperately needed a break and some sunshine to cheer me up. I decided to escape and cruise down to Mexico out of Galveston. I opted for a five-day cruise aboard Carnival Magic, one of the fleet's newest ships and an easy getaway from San Antonio.
Where to eat, play, stay in Galveston
March 21, 2015
Galveston's colorful past is filled with tales of scoundrels, bootleggers, mobsters and high rollers. Jean Lafitte, the notorious pirate, was the town's first known European settler. This small island, 32 miles long and two and a half miles wide, packs a big punch. You'll find lots of family-friendly attractions to keep you busy.
A tale of two Tahoes: Bucolic scenery, glitzy casinos abut
February 14, 2015
This is a tale of two Tahoes - one outdoorsy, filled with exquisite natural beauty, and the other glam and glitz, with 24/7 casinos and fine dining. Take your pick. Tahoe has many facets and multiple personalities, offering a great range of activities for all. Whether you're a hiker, skier, nature lover or history buff, you'll find it all in South Lake Tahoe.
Old South's legacy looms large in New Orleans Plantation Country
September 16, 2014
About a dozen grand Southern mansions remain intact in New Orleans Plantation Country, within an hour's drive from the French Quarter. Many are National Historic Landmarks and available for tours that reveal the lifestyle, customs and even the decadence of the Old South.

It's easy to see how Oak Alley Plantation got its name when you look at the approach to the majestic home surrounded by oak trees.
Lake Charles: Boudin and gumbo
September 12, 2014
Lake Charles, Louisiana - I was in a penny-pinching mode after a major condo remodel this summer. So, I decided to hop a Greyhound bus to Lake Charles and leave the driving to someone else. It was a good decision - an affordable alternative to flying, relaxing and no hassle. My bus even had Wi-Fi onboard.

NM lodging options offer great variety
May 20, 2014
Travelers will find an astronomical amount of lodging options in all price ranges in New Mexico's "trio" -- everything from affordable La Quintas to cozy casitas, charming bed & breakfasts to luxurious sanctuaries and world-class resorts. The good news is that many of the properties are pet friendly, so be sure to inquire when making your reservations if you plan to travel with four-legged friends.
An artist's perspective on New Mexico towns
May 16, 2014
New Mexico is a creative mecca. The state's dramatic landscape, adobe pueblos and raw beauty have captured the souls and provided inspiration for generations of artists. After my first visit, I was hooked and couldn't stay away. The breathtaking scenery provided a vibrant palette for my textile designs. It wasn't long before my hand-painted silk scarves inspired by Taos' glorious sunsets were sold in Origins, Santa Fe's exclusive boutique. A quarter of a century later, I'm still unable to resist the state's magnetic pull. Each visit still awakens my senses.
